Divinum Mysterium for Violoncello and Piano

Divinum Mysterium for Violoncello and Piano has been arranged by Joseph I. Corporon (ASCAP).

DIVINUM MYSTERIUM is a plainsong, or chant, associated with the Divinum mysterium text in manuscripts dating from the twelfth to fifteenth centuries. This arrangement retains elements of both the original non-metrical chant and the triple meter of some early arrangements.

The Tempo rubato sections at the beginning and at the ending (mm. 101-end) are notated without a time signature, like the original plainsong. These sections should be played freely, speeding and slowing the tempo to fit the melodic line.

The remainder of the piece is in either 9/8 or 3/4, and features a three-part fugue in the middle of the piece.
